Exciting Opportunities Ahead - February 2012
The end of the very challenging 2011 year saw a number of our retail clients gearing up for their 'summer sale' activity and others taking the opportunity to create a series of 'pro-Christchurch' business web profiles (click to see videos).
The result for us was a whirlwind finish to the year working for direct clients as well as agencies such as Strategy, Yellow Pencil and Make Collective. After a well-deserved break we are back and already racing into what is shaping up to be a very interesting year, with many of our clients already taking advantage of the redevelopment and rebuilding opportunities that lay ahead. We will be continuing our work with existing clients and be able to flex our creative muscle on some new and innovative web marketing strategies.

Helping Hands in Wellington - July 12th 2011
The Hands Up Wellington 'Red to the Black' Expo was held on the 2nd & 3rd of July, an event that opened up store frontage to businesses in Christchurch who had been directly disrupted by the ongoing earthquakes in Canterbury. Ruffells were asked to help out so we put a series of short videos together promoting some of the vendors that were going up to sell their wares on more solid ground. (See right) Tim went up to attend the expo and was impressed by the turn out and generosity of spirit from our cousins in the capital. While we've had a bit of a shake up at Ruffells, we were glad to partake and are enjoying the opportunities that are being presented post quake(s).

Canon Fodder - June 25th 2011
A chilly winter morning, a small crowd of onlookers (and a crowd of small onlookers) plus our camera crew turned up at our former Canon Street premises on Saturday 25th June 2011 to witness the final demolition of our beloved production studio.
Each recent earthquake and subsequent aftershock had already turned this once proud building, built in the 1930's, into a shadow of it's former self. Like the demise of so many of Christchurch's heritage buildings, the final act of demolition was over in a flash bringing with it the same wave of emotion - sadness tempered by relief.

When good trucks go bad. August 2010
Having produced an Induction Health & Safety DVD two years ago for Allied Concrete Ltd - a division of the HW Richardson Transport Group - Ruffells were approached this year to again don hard hats and hi-viz jackets and take to the deep South to create another H&S DVD, this time for the entire Group's transport operation. Everything from diggers to cranes, livestock trucks to spreaders, dozers to container lifters, even forklifts and Company utes, went under the spotlight of safe workplace practices. Work site injuries, basic personal safety, best practices on the road, red zones, environmental considerations, reporting... it was all covered in an easy-to-understand style that clearly demonstrated right from wrong. The risk of injury amongst such a huge fleet of vehicles operating over so many transport sectors is considerable, and Ruffells were happy to do our bit to protect life and limb. And we must be doing something right - the Group contacted us again and we are currently finishing off another Richardson Group H&S DVD, this time for the highly specialised rural operation of seed and fertiliser spreading.
Building the Future. August 2010
Ruffells has worked with the Christchurch City Council and Ngai Tahu Property Joint Venture during the last 18 months documenting the construction of the new Christchurch Civic Building. The building is the "greenest" building in New Zealand, having been awarded the ultimate 6 Green Star rating for environmental design by the New Zealand Green Building Council. From staff podcasts to photographs and video footage, this development has been well recorded by Ruffells to produce an extensive communications and archival resource. We donned hard hats, work boots and safety vests to achieve it and were on site before dawn for the recent Ngai Tahu blessing of the building. Recording the ingenious transformation of an outmoded building into a revitalised and environment-friendly city asset has been a hugely satisfying project.
